We all make mistakes. But it would be highly advisable to try to avoid making certain mistakes, especially when it comes to the public presentation of your brand via social networking. Before you say that your internet presence is perfect and that you totally adhere to the social media rule book as if it were the Bible, take a look below and see if you are guilty of any of the following.

Lack of strategy

Don't just stick to run-of-the-mill posts of the ilk ‘good morning' and ‘welcome to January'! Create and apply social media strategy in line with your goals, the audience you want to attract and the medium you have chosen. Only in this way will you have successful campaigns and satisfied followers.

Using all social media in the same way

It's not a case of one fits all!

Choose the channel which best suits your brand and the audience you are addressing. Create original content for each channel. Schedule your posts. If, for example, you choose Instagram, you will need lots of photos and appropriate hashtags for an effective presence. On Facebook videos work extremely well. Draw up a content calendar each month containing all of the above.

Indefinable branding

All brands must really understand the product or service that they are promoting as well as the audience they are targeting. Upload relevant content and research who is interested in your products according to your brand strategy. Your followers are not interested in everything that you sell!

Not answering comments

If you've ever ignored comments or deleted negative comments, put your hand up!

Never forget that social media is social! Whoever contacts your company expects an immediate and considered reply. For this reason, answer comments promptlywhether they be positive or negative and interact with the users. This is very important as you don't want to be accused of being only interested in advertising.

Over promoting your products

As we mentioned above, if all your posts are simply advertisements for your products, your page will soon be seen as boring and the unfollow button will be clicked in quick succession. You certainly don't want that. So, invest in your content and display your services or products discreetly. Initially, you should build relationships with your community and then gradually your sales will increase.

Too many or too few posts

If you wish to have a strong social media presence, you will need to post frequently. For example, for a Facebook page, 3 posts a week are enough. If you overdo it, it will have the opposite effect and you are likely to tire or annoy your followers, especially if the posts contain lots of emoticons and hashtags.

Ignore your statistics

It's not enough to blow your budget on just one advert and expect results. Check out how effective your advertising campaign is and assess what exactly is proving to be most productive. The tools are there to show you which campaigns are effective and which aren't. Therefore, keep a careful eye on insights and analytics.
