Buying expensive clothes doesn't necessarily guarantee that your look will reflect a chic expensive style. However, it is possible, if you know how, to create an expensive look on a low budget. The choices you make and how you put an outfit together can make all the difference.
So let's look at how we can make it look like money is no object when it comes to looking stylish and look a million dollars on a budget!
1. Press Perfect
Okay so a really simple way just to get started is making sure your clothes are ironed well. Be it a shirt or pants, whatever the fabric, if they're creased they will look shabby and certainly not expensive.
2. Material Girl
Always opt for quality when you are buying new clothes. Natural materials such as silk, cotton and linen are perfect for creating an expensive look and will flatter your figure too. If you buy your clothes in the sales or even in second hand shops, you will find some fabulous bargains. If you must wear synthetics, make sure the fabric has no more than 20% and avoid overly shiny material. Also check the seams and hems are well made - the devil is in the detail!
3. Back to Black
Black is always chic and chic = expensive. It's so versatile too - from casual to formal. Opt for different textures, add a statement piece or wear with a pop of colour. Choose black pieces with special details, for example jewel detail on the shoulders.
4. Light & White
Opt for light coloured outerwear such as coats and jackets. This will immediately lend a chic exclusive dimension to your look. If you dare, an all white outfit is synonymous with classy. Total white simply screams a lady that lunches!
5. Note the Coat
If you are going to spend a bit more on something, it's probably worth investing in a good coat. It's the first thing others will notice about you so what you're wearing underneath is irrelevant - within reason|!
6. High Society
Not that flats and sneakers can't look pricey, but nothing can really compare to a pair of high heels for a chic silhouette. Make sure they are in tiptop condition - no scuffs or worn down heels; make the shoe repair man/woman your new best friend!
7. Blazer Trail
Wearing a blazer will lend a chic vibe to your look. Wear it over your shoulders for the ultimate in classy style. This will even lift a casual look like skinny jeans and a white tee to the next level.
8. Bring on the Bling
Accessorise to upgrade your look. A statement ring or bracelet will lend an expensive air to your outfit. Opt for jewellery in gold tones and/or with crystals which will immediately add an opulent air even if it's just costume jewellery. Also a small smart watch is always a good way to add some moneyed style to your look. Wearing a hat or a chic belt is another sure way of elevating your style.
9. It's How You Hold It!
Many of us can wax lyrical about an expensive bag we simply can't afford but know succumbing to it would be one extravagance too far. But this doesn't mean that a bag can't look expensive even if it isn't. Carry your bag in the crook of your elbow to give the impression that you spent a fortune while lending an aura of sophistication to your look.
10. Ring the Changes
A super simple way of lending a lavish look to your outfits is by making some changes For example you could upgrade an indifferent gabardine with some quirky buttons. Or by adding some rhinestones or sequins you could enhance your favourite LBD by creating a more sophisticated style.
11. Well Groomed
Make sure you complete your look by always ensuring your hair, make-up and nails are all looking good. Well cut sleek hair with a good colour, manicured nails and subtle make-up will all combine to ensure an expensive classy result.
Keep it simple. A minimalist silhouette is always preferable to an OTT look where there is ample opportunity to get it wrong. Follow these simple steps and keep them guessing as to how you can possibly afford to look so fabulous!
